O Nas
In 2018, the University of Wrocław – Department of Climatology and Atmospheric Protection, together with the Wrocław University of Technology and the City of Bydgoszcz, received funding for the implementation of the informational and educational project titled "Do you know what you are breathing? – an informational and educational campaign for cleaner air" under the EU LIFE financial instrument and co-financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
The total project budget is 8,218,592 PLN. UWr is the project leader, with partners including the Wrocław University of Technology – Wrocław Network and Supercomputing Center and the City of Bydgoszcz. The project is led by Dr. Tymoteusz Sawiński (Department of Climatology and Atmospheric Protection).
The project is a continuation and expansion of the 2017 LIFE-APIS/PL project "Air Pollution Concentration and Biometeorological Conditions Forecasting System as an Element of Quality of Life Assessment", which was also funded under the LIFE instrument and the NFOŚiGW grant (budget: 4,359,924 PLN). As part of this project, a biometeorological and air quality forecasting system was created: powietrze.uni.wroc.pl.
It combines scientific aspects (air quality forecasting) with practical applications, addressing current environmental problems and societal expectations, such as improving air quality and providing universal access to reliable information about air pollution in the place of residence. The project's subject matter aligns with key research issues currently relevant in the EU, including those defined in the planned Horizon Europe program, and also fits within the framework of EU environmental policy.
The main tasks planned within the Project include the creation of an educational platform dedicated to air quality issues in the project area (a publicly accessible platform without restrictions, with the possibility of its expansion) and conducting an educational campaign based on it, focusing on air quality issues in urbanized areas (scale of the threat, types of threats, how to protect oneself, how to reduce the problem – real possibilities and ways to act, who is responsible for air quality). The platform will integrate solutions implemented as part of the completed LIFE-APIS/PL Project (air quality, meteorological and biometeorological forecasts, Geoportal NaszePowietrze), with new educational and informational tools developed within the planned project.
Project implementation area: The project has been planned for the Wrocław agglomeration area (including satellite municipalities) and the Bydgoszcz agglomeration area.
Project implementation period: 01.04.2019 – 31.03.2023.
