About a course
In recent years, the issue of air pollution has been strongly highlighted. The increased awareness of society about the negative health consequences of staying in polluted air impacted both the amount and level of information transmitted about its quality.
The interpretation of data describing air quality requires specialist knowledge, which often causes a lot of difficulties not only for residents but also for journalists, creators of internet portals and mobile applications that inform about air quality. Incorrect expressions such as "smog concentration", "level of smog", "smog standards" appear, and combined with emotionally charged comments on the results of measurements of the concentrations of individual pollutants in the air, they rather lead to misinformation and make it difficult to use the available data practically, e.g., when planning physical activity outdoors.
Issues
- How to correctly read data on air quality and what it implies?
- What quality standards for air apply in Poland?
- What are air quality indices and how are they determined?
- How to interpret available information about air quality in the context of protecting our health?
